The History and Origins of Merlot

What Makes Cellar Beast Merlot Unique?

Merlot, one of the most popular varieties in the world, has roots dating back to the 19th century, originating in the Bordeaux region of France. Known for its versatility, Merlot thrives in cooler climates, exhibits notes of bright fruit and moderate tannins, and develops bold flavors and a smooth texture in warmer climates.

Merlot is one of the most popular and versatile red wine varietals, known for its lush, velvety texture and rich fruit-forward flavors. For a deeper dive into Merlot’s history and characteristics, visit the Wine Folly Guide to Merlot.

The Winemaking Process Behind Cellar Beast Merlot

How Our Vineyard and Techniques Shape the Merlot

At Cellar Beast Winehouse, our Merlot is meticulously crafted, reflecting our commitment to traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking. We source premium Merlot grapes from the esteemed Meek Vineyard in Yakima Valley, Washington, known for its ideal terroir, which imparts rich flavors and complexity to the fruit.

Upon arrival at our Andreas, Pennsylvania facility, the grapes undergo whole-berry fermentation, a technique that preserves the freshness and purity of the fruit. This method allows for gentle maceration, enhancing the wine's complexity without over-extraction.

Following fermentation, the wine is aged in carefully selected vessels to develop its character and depth. This aging process imparts subtle nuances and a smooth finish, complementing the wine's inherent bold flavors.

Our dedication to sustainable practices and minimal intervention ensures that each bottle of Merlot authentically represents the unique terroir of its origin, delivering a refined and elegant wine experience.
